Morris Micro Computer Club

The Morris Micro Computer Club (MMCC) is a group of amateur and professional computer users that meets monthly to discuss new developments and old problems with personal computers. Meetings generally consist of a demonstration of a computer software or hardware product, a question and answer session on the meeting topic, and an open discussion session in which people can seek answers to problems or share recent computing experiences. MMCC meets on the second Thursday of every month. Meetings begin at 7:00 and finish by 8:45. These meetings are open to all interested computer users. Non-members are always welcome! MMCC meets at the Morris County Library, 30 East Hanover Road (between Whippany Road and Ridgedale Ave.) north of Morristown. This site is readily accessible from Route 24 (westbound only, take exit 1A) and Route 287 (southbound take exit 36, northbound take exit 36b, then turn north on Ridgedale). +++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++ August 14 Meeting: During the summer months, the Morris Micro Computer Club continues to meet at the Morris County Library as usual. There will not be a prepared program. Instead, we just sit around and discuss computer problems and solutions. All are welcome, as always. =============================================================== September 11 Meeting: Monitoring Your Investment Portfolio With Excel Using Microsoft Excel (or another spread sheet) has advantages over using a "canned" program such as Quicken or Money. If you are familiar with the spreadsheet, it is easy to set up your financial analysis. You can customize it for your particular portfolio, investment style and philosophy. You can understand the calculations. And you can immediately see the results of changes, without having to generate a report. Jim Harris will discuss these advantages. He will give examples from his own financial spreadsheet. It accounts for various forms of investments, such as bonds, preferred stocks, growth stocks, and high-yield stocks. He will show how to use Finance.Yahoo.com to rapidly download current prices and import these into the financial analysis spreadsheet. Mr. Harris is retired from Exxon, where he worked the computer field. He now teaches computer courses in the Lifetime Learning Program at Fairleigh Dickenson University.
